Pharmacology is a Beautiful Thing

As I sit here enjoying my M&Ms, Scott has walked by and commented how my ADD medicine is working brillantly.

I have actually lined up all 15 of them in rows according to color and their position in the rainbow. Brown always gets eaten first because they arent very pretty to look at. But other than that my method of eating them is arbitrary. I am down to one orange and one blue.

I have to say, since I started taking something for my Adult Attention Defecit Disorder, my life has become less complicated, at least from an organizational standpoint. I can maintain long conversations without losing my train of concentration. I can sit for long periods of time and not flake out or start daydreaming. Unless of course, that was my plan. As I do LOVE to daydream. Unfortunately, that doesnt pay the bills. But aside from that. . . . You should see my desk at work!!!!! All the paperclips are in one spot. The push pins. Pens and the letter opener. All neat and orderly. I know where everything is. File folders have stuff in them. And its the stuff that belongs there.

The good news is that I feel empowered. I was starting to worry that I had a major personality defect. . that I was lazy, crazy or stupid. After consulting a psychiatrist, the crazy was confirmed. But then I got a real diagnosis. Now I get things accomplished. Six or eight months ago, I might have made a "to do" list, but never understood how other people were actually able to mark things off the list as accomplished. I was the queen of post it notes. If you cant find me, look under the pile of post its, and bring oxygen. I might spend an hour grocery shopping and only leave with a few items because I couldnt focus on what I needed or where I could find it in the store. Another cool thing is that in a chat with friends I could get off track and never get around to making my point. Now that my focus is better, I can keep my thoughts in order and not forget what I was talking about. I know it sounds silly, but its absolutely true.

Another great side effect is that my Doctor and I decided to pull back on the anti-depressant medication. He felt that once we took care of the ADD, the depression would dissipate. And it has.

As usual, I have overshared. I would like to encourage anyone with serious issues focusing. . . to be checked for ADD. I mistakenly thought that ADHD and ADD was just for 7 year old boys who had impulse control issues. Who knew it could be a 30 year old woman?

Ok, does that mean if you don't line up your M&M's and use incredible amounts of post-it-notes you are crazy? Hmm, I'm hungry. So what is ADHD or HDD or whatever in adults? Boy, it sure is pretty outside. Did I take my pills today? What drugs are you taking I think I need to try them. I forgot what I was doing and can't find any paper clips on my desk so bye!

I think this comment is a cry for help don't you?

I have serious issues, but I doubt it's ADD, so I'm glad they pinpointed yours, Jenn!

As for M&Ms, I have to eat two of each color together. Seriously, this is non-negotiable. Only when I get to the end and there aren't two of the same color does this rule change, and by then I'm on a sugar high so who cares?

    ok, mystery person~

ADD or boredom. Either way, the world has never been ready for my enormous brain or genius IQ. I suppose its just nature's way of evening things out.

Pinky and I will continue doing what we always plot to do, TAKE over THE WORLD!!
